This page is a resource for all St. Lawrence College faculty and staff during the implementation of the standalone Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree at St. Lawrence College. Information is intended as a reference for faculty and staff in current and forthcoming BScN programs (Laurentian University and St. Lawrence College); however, this guide may be useful to faculty in nursing and allied health programs at SLC including but not limited to Practical Nursing, Paramedic, Pre-Health Sciences, Personal Support Worker, and Critical Care Nursing.
BScN students in the standalone degree program from St. Lawrence College DO NOT have access to Laurentian University (LU) Library's online collections. While access to LU will continue for the remaining years of the SLC/LU partnership (2023-2024), each year of the SLC program will need to transition to SLC-licensed resources only.
Faculty teaching Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 courses in Fall 2023 should plan to transition to SLC library resources as soon as possible.
The library team is here to help! Send resource and reading lists to the Library Team at Libraries@sl.on.ca We will cross-reference all materials in use with SLC Library collections on your behalf.
NOTICE: Access to Laurentian University (LU) Library online collections is restricted to current registered and authorized Laurentian BScN students only (i.e. Year 4 in Fall 2023). This access restriction is based on publisher licensing models.
Access to Laurentian University (LU) Library's online collections will continue to be available for faculty and students for the remaining years of the SLC/LU partnership (2023-2024).
Faculty teaching in Year 4 should begin to plan for transitioning to SLC library resources.

Library Acquisitions Procedures
Library acquisitions is a complex process in the academic publishing industry. SLC Libraries expends college funds through provincially and nationally negotiated consortial licenses to keep expenses sustainable. This page is intended to simplify the process so that faculty can better understand the selection and purchasing process. The library is a partner with the Academic Schools and values the recommendations and subject expertise of faculty.
Note that all purchase requests are evaluated using established industry selection criteria and professional expertise; significant expenses will only be considered in partnership with the academic school and per college budgetary cycles.
Steps for requesting journals, books, and video are outlined on this page. For general inquiries or further assistance, contact the Library Team Libraries@sl.on.ca
Booklists
Library staff review booklists posted on slc.me. We make every effort to add items already owned by the library to reserves. We also try to purchase items the library does not own. Due to copyright and budgets, we are not always able to purchase every book on the booklists.
Course Reserves (Short-term Loan) Request Form (Online Form)
Faculty can also use the Course Reserves (Short-term Loan) Request Form (Online Form) to add print library books to the reserve collection. Faculty may also loan their own materials for use during the semester. Contact the library at Libraries@sl.on.ca to find out more about adding items to reserve.
The Library Team offers a variety of services to support student learning and faculty including:
Use the Class Visit/Library Workshop Request Form (Faculty Use) to request a classroom visit.
If you or your students need help using and finding library resources, book an appointment with us.
If you are doing your own research and need help finding resources, the library can help. Email Libraries@sl.on.ca to find out how we can help with your research needs.
The library also has a guide on using the free citation management tool Zotero. If you need help using Zotero, email us at Libraries@sl.on.ca or book an appointment with us.
Selected Open Access Resources in Nursing
The eCampus Ontario "Open at Scale Nursing OER" project completed an environmental scan and review of Open Educational Resources and/or potential resources for open adoption. These reviewed resources are categorized by CNO competencies.
