Requesting Library Items

Any person holding a valid SLC library card may borrow from the circulating collection, tri-campus.  A hold can be placed using your online library account, or in person at the circulation desk.  Specify from which campus you wish to pick up the item.  Tri-campus loans take approximately 3-4 business days.  Return the item or request renewals at any one of our three campus locations.

Who may use the Interlibrary loan service?

  • This service is available to current SLC students, faculty and staff only.  Your library account fines/fees must not exceed $15.00 at time of the request.

How much does this service cost?

  • Generally there is no charge for this service.  If charges arise library staff will contact you prior to placing your request.  Should items be lost or damaged, however, the borrower will pay costs to the lending library.

Which library items are not loaned out by libraries?

  • An entire issue of a journal.
  • E-Resources (eBooks)
  • On Reserve/Reference material
  • Some Audio Visual materials, subject to lending library policies.

How long does it take for my request to arrive?

  • Delivery time depends on geographical proximity and the loaning policies of the lending library.  We cannot guarantee that the requested item will arrive before a specific date.

How will I be notified when the material arrives?

  • You may choose to be notified by email or by telephone.
  • You will also be notified if the request cannot be filled or canceled.

Where do I pick up the item and then return it?

  • You may pick up the item at the circulation desk of the library. You will also return ILL books to this same desk.

How long may I keep it?

  • The lending library will specify the loan duration - usually it is a couple of weeks. Renewals requests will be forwarded on your behalf and granted by the lending library. You must return the item to us by the date stated on the book.

What if I lose or damage the ILL items?

  • You are financially responsible for any damage or loss of any ILL materials. Replacement costs will be determined by the lending library depending on their policies.
