We have a new check-in / check-out feature for the group study rooms in the library. We have added this feature to clear the bookings of unused rooms so that we can make as much space available as possible. This feature does not apply to bookable spaces outside of the library.

When you book a library room, you receive a confirmation email. That email includes a 3-digit code and links to the check-in and check-out pages. There are also QR codes in the study rooms that will link you to these pages.

When you arrive at the room you’ve booked, enter the 3-digit code on the check-in page to keep your booking from being cancelled. If you do not enter the code, the booking will be automatically removed 15 minutes into the time slot, and the room will then be available for someone else to book.

If you are finished using the room before the end of your time, you can enter the same code on the check-out page to clear the remainder of your booking as a courtesy to other students who may be looking for space.

Thank you for helping us make the most of the space we have available!

For any not familiar with Barbenheimer, here’s a summary. Last summer two highly anticipated films, Oppenheimer and Barbie, were released in theatres on the same day. One was a biographical film about a scientist who helped to develop nuclear weapons during World War II, and the other is a philosophical fantasy-comedy based on a popular toy. These films are wildly different in tone and concept which made their side-by-side release amusing to many. There were also a few things they had in common. Both had very popular and respected directors, all-star casts, and other prominent talent. People on the internet began editing combined posters and trailers for the movies and talking about which film to see first. The event became known as Barbenheimer. Barbenheimer became a celebration of the variety and excellence of cinema and both films were very successful and well received.

Both films are now available through SLC Libraries streaming movie collections so you can experience Barbenheimer at home.

Starting Wednesday January 10th, physical books checked out to students, staff, and faculty will automatically renew up to two (2) times provided the item is not on hold for someone else.

This means that our patrons will no longer have to call us to renew their material right away.

Once the two (2) renewals have elapsed, they will receive an email letting them know that their book is overdue and that it must be returned, otherwise it will be declared lost.

This feature is not available for community members or alumni. Interlibrary Loans (between participating post-secondary institutions) also cannot be automatically renewed.

Please let us know of any questions or concerns by email at libraries@sl.on.ca.
