How to Find Books

Search the Library Catalogue

Search the library catalogue for books and other materials in the library's collections. When you find what you're looking for, make a note of the item's availability, campus, collection, and call number:

Availability

Available means the book is in the library and on the book shelves, ready for anyone to sign out.

Checked out or On Loan means that someone else has signed out the book. You are welcome to submit a hold request so that you can borrow the book next. Follow the steps in this video for requesting books online.

Collections

Books are shelved in different collections, located in different locations in the library. Most of our books are in the Stacks, but many are in Reserve, Indigenous, Graphic Novels, and other collections.

Campus

Our college has three campuses; Brockville, Cornwall, and Kingston. You can borrow a book located at any campus library. Follow the steps in this video for requesting books online.

Call Number

Every book has a unique call number or "shelf address" that tells you where the book is located on the shelves.

We use the Library of Congress Classification system for our call numbers. This classification system arranges books according to what they are about, so that books on the same topic are shelved together.

TIP: Since books on the same topic are shelved together, be sure to browse the area where you find your book(s), as you'll also find other books on the same topic.
